Welcome From Shannon Folk Group
The Shannon
Folk Group (pictured here with Bishop Kieran O'Reilly) was founded by Sister Joseph Cantwell in 1978; put together
originally to sing at mass in the Comprehensive School hall while the new
church (Ss John & Paul) was being built.
Made up mainly of teenagers from the charismatic prayer group that was
in place in the town, the group moved to Ss John & Paul on its opening in
1980.
The group has been singing at 10am mass in the church since and has a strong senior and junior membership. The material we choose (new and old) is deliberately selected to ensure that all are encouraged to participate (choir and congregation).
Since its original foundation, the choir has undergone many changes in personnel. The leaders and members have all added greatly to what we have today (both in terms of material and in the manner in which the group attempts to bring joyful praise into the weekly celebration of the mass).
